#CleartheList – October

十月快樂,  Schönen Oktober, Til hamingju með október, Feliz octubre, Bon octobre

Hello everyone! My gosh, this year has gone fast, and Language Learners Journal is now officially 1 years old! Thank you to my followers for all of your support over the last 12 months. Now it may be the cold and dark months, but I love the autumn and winter. I am not sure about you, but October always seems to be the best study month for me!

Hygge

#Hygge, it is the Danish way of enjoying quiet moments and simple pleasures. I think the closest equivalent in English is the word ‘cosy, which means nice, warm and snug.
For me, hygge is being wrapped up in a fluffy blanket with thick socks or slippers on, a good book, and coffee ❤️ How do you Hygge? Let me know in the comments section below. #Hygge is going to be my theme for October.

September Successes

I got accepted on and started the Entrepreunal Spark programme, which is great but it did mean that my language learning took 2nd place this month.
Although that said I won Utalk’s September  challenge. If you want to take part in October you need to post a video on Twitter saying “I don’t understand” in your target language. You can win a year’s subscription to UTalk. For more information check out http://bit.ly/LanguageDare.
Language Learners Journal was created to promote a more holistic approach to language learning for students and now this has grown to include language teachers too, which is totally AWESOME! I created a monkey survey asking what you would like to see from Language Learners Journal and the response was AMAZING. I am currently working on the suggestions and a few have already been implemented. So thank you and if you would like to complete the survey you can here…

October Goals

German
I need to get back on track with my German and will be studying 30 minutes per day 5 days a week, plus further 10-15 minutes 7 days a week using one of my favorite language apps Flash Academy.
Mandarin

Our official website for our Mandarin Meetup group is now live (although still under construction), yay! We continue to meet up and our group is over a year old now! We also have a private facebook page for those that live out of the area and I host the occasional Mandarin Google Hangout.
This month I will be making the most out of my Utalk subscription and using this to learn Mandarin for 15-30 minutes per day 5 days a week. I also have the flashcards from Chineasy and Easy Peasy Chinese books which I’ll be using for about 40 minutes over the weekends. I do highly recommend these products for beginners.
I’d like to join (and promote) IGLC this month, I noticed when it was pointed out by another #clearthelist goal setter that I have been shadowing IGLC rather than actively engaging with it.

Other Languages

Spanish, British Sign Language, Icelantic and French are all on hold as this is set to be a busy month for Language Learners Journal and the day job.
Other Business
I am super excited to announce that my workbook ‘Positively Productive‘ is relaunched this month and I am working really hard to produce a new online course to compliment the book. I am hoping to release the ‘beta’ version of the course at the end of October. If anyone would like to be a ‘tester’ for my course please contact me.

I do hope everyone is well? For those of you taking part in #clearthelist I look forward to reading your posts this month! Best wishes with your language learning journey and don’t forget if you are struggling to set goals or feeling anxious about speaking in your target language I am still offering 20-minute taster coaching sessions online, but spaces are limited…

#CleartheList is hosted by the awesome folks that are Lindsay (Lindsay Does Languages), Kris Broholm (Actual Fluency), Angel Pretot (French Lover), and Shannon Kennedy (Eurolinguiste). The aim is to set and share your language learning goals for a given month and then obviously try your best to achieve them by the end of it.
You can find the full description of Clear the List and how to join it, here.

  1. Always so positive and inspiring! Congratulations for this one year, and many more to come! What is the entrepreneur Stark program? Will it be related to the Language Learners Journal, or do you have other plans?

    1. Merci beaucoup. C’est très gentil de votre part.
Entrepreneur Spark is a support program for startups (and step-ups). The program helps about 1000 business a year in the UK. It is supporting me as I look at turning Language Learners Journal into a social enterprise, which means a profit with purpose. The money I make will be invested into the promotion of language learning and community-based projects.

  2. Congrats on your one year anniversary! Sounds like you still had a really productive month in September. Always inspiring to read how you are getting on with all your languages. I am planning on doing a bit of Mandarin next month so I will finally have chance to dust off my copy of Chineasy. Exciting!
Best of luck with October! 🙂
